Hi Kara,
JRTs are small dogs with big dog personalities. It sounds as though your Russell mix definitely has an alpha personality that causes him to try to establish dominance over any dog he thinks he can lord it over. I can tell you from personal experience that there is only so much you can do in this situation. Being a Terrier, he's bound to be naturally scrappy and this behavior is part of his genetic makeup. The Bloodhound should be a good companion for him, but he'll naturally need time to adjust from his former canine companion to the new one.
As for your dog's weak appetite, I recommend you boil some ground beef and mix it in with his kibble. This should tempt him to begin eating again, and you can eventually back off on the ground beef until he's back on full kibble.
Thanks for your question. :)

-- Contributed by: KaraHi Annmarie,
Have you discussed this problem with your vet? Your dog could have a weak bladder that might be helped with medication.
That said, it often helps if everyone remains very calm when they enter your home. If you can take the energy level down a bit, your dog may not become quite so excited. Hopefully this will keep her from becoming anxious enough to let loose.
Thanks for your question, and I hope these suggestions prove useful.

I haven't been able to find any do...entation that seizures are common to Rat Terries, but you might be able to find out more about this by contacting the Rat Terrier Club of America. You'll find their link offered in the article above.
Thanks for your question, and best wishes for your dog's health.
-- Contributed by: KellyWe have an 8 year old Rat Terrier name of Max. He's the best little guy and a lot of fun to watch. We do have a problem with seizures. He hasn't had them for awhile, but I was wondering if they are prevalant in this particular breed. He's had them about every 3 to 6 months for about 6 or 7 years. Never bad ones, and he always wants to be near someone when they occur. I just hate to think that he have one when we are not home. My husband is scared that he will bite when he is having one, but he has never shown any tendencies toward that. I have been around Rat Terriers all my life, and they truly are the most loving and loyal dogs around!
