American Pit Bull Terriers are very special dogs. They, however, can do just as much damage as any other dog of any breed, shape, size, age, gender, etc. People judge the breed just because of idiotic people who fight them, they don't stop to think that the dogs are forced into the living. If they don't do what the owner demands, they are often electricuted under water, drowned, strangled, or shot.

I own an American Pit Bull Terrier mix (mixed with Australian Shepherd and German Shorthaired Pointer) and I love my dog to death. He wouldn't hurt a human soul if his life had depended on it. The most harmful he will get towards a person is licking them to death!

People also don't understand that fighting dogs are meant to gain a certain trust and relationship with the handler. They are taught to gain a love for their owner, and they do anything in their power to keep their owner safe; even if it means launching towards another dog. They NEVER hurt humans unless they are trained to do so, or just simply not trained because of their irresponsible owner. They only launch other animals, usually other dogs, out of fear or instinct, or even training.

My American Pit Bull Terrier is dog aggressive, yes, but it is because of dominance. He only attacks other males, and we are fixing that issue by getting him neutered and extensive training. He is starting to overcome his problem. Other than the aggression, he is the perfect dog. American Pit Bull Terriers are the best dogs anybody could ever ask for. They are loyal, intellegent, funny, easy to train, gorgeous, and love kids. They are true dogs, but everybody always fears them because of us humans.

Not everyone will understand this special breed except for those who have truly been experienced with them and witnessed how amazing and awesome they really are.

In about 8 years I am opening an American Pit Bull Terrier rescue, to rehabilitate abused, neglected, and fighting Pitties and mixes. I hope to make atleast the tiny difference, one dog at a time. It is all us humans can do besides saying NO to Breed Specific Legislation.

Hopefully people will someday figure out how amazing these dogs really are.

it is awsome i love big short pit bulls. the thing is is that they arent mean if u train them to be friendly. we had one around little kids she loved to play with kids.so for all people who say they are mean forget u!!!!! if u train them to be nice they will be.

To the world. I have a BEAUTIFUL Carver Pitbull that goes by the name of Nina. She is my pride and joy and my husband and i love her dearly. Alot of people stopped coming to my house because of our dog and it wasn't because she snapped or barked at them, it was because of the people who give Pitbulls the bad names. A dog is going to do what it is trained to do and if you train your dog to fight(any dog)then that is what it is going to do. I sware my next door neighbor's Pomeranian as bit 3 people in the past year. So what i'm trying to say is to not judge a dog by the breed because all dogs have teeth and they are all capable of doing damage.

i have four pits and they are great. its not the breed its the owners of the breed and that includes all breeds. fighting pits is wrong. my newest pup is stewie 60lbs at four months. hes a beast

Thanks to the morons that fight their dogs, Pittbull's now have a bad rep. There are now areas in Texas where it illegal to own one. Thanks god that does not apply to my city. I love my 3 Pittbull's. They are the very best! Always very sweet, good to my children and my 2lb. Chihuahua and 3lb. Yorkie....Yup they are best friends!

I own two pitbulls and they are the most sweetest dogs. They are excellent with my children and have never showed signs of agression. I would recommend these dogs to anyone who wants a family pet.

i own three pitbulls and if sombody ask me to fight them i would say go ask some one else to fight their dogs dogs because i love my dogs and to see them beat up makes me relly sad

Im a proud owner of 5 pitbulls. they are very good family dogs!!! they should not have to be put through this stupid fighting. we have no reason to fear these dogs. as long as you raise them right they are very good family pets. i've never been bitten by moy dogs & they have only bitten one person & that was a female & it was b/c someone was trying to take one of her puppies.

i think anyone who is stupid enough to fight there dogs should be arrested!!! its a pathetic way to get money and entertainment no animal should be put thru that... you go and fight to your deeath or until your barely alive.

I fill the same way about dog fighting it is WRONG. I think any form of violence weather it be man or animal is cruel and should be stopped.

Thank you for sharing your opinion, however I don't believe that there was any statement in this article or the comments that followed that said Pitbulls aren't loving toward their people. As a matter of fact, you might like to check out our breed article on Pitbulls, which confirms the fact that these dogs can be very family oriented when properly raised.

I never raised my pitbull to be mean and hateful, even though I have fought him a few times when I lived in GA, he was still the loving dog he always was, We had him around my 1 Year old nephew and he loved him to death, all yall puttin in ur opinion need to know what ur talkin about and quit thinkin u know everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got rid of one of my pits bc of no room to keep it and now the people that have my dog fight him he is ruined he isnt the dog he used to be! I here him at night from night they fight him three houses down from me i hate the sound its cruel i hope whoever fights the dogs have CRUEL punishment they desevere it! RIP to every dog fought and died!

I'm so sorry this has happened to your dog, but it's a strong example of why we should all thoroughly check out prospective buyers and rescuers, especially when Pitbulls are concerned.

Under the circumstances, I really believe you have an obligation to alert your local authorities to the fact your neighbors are operating dog fights. You can ask the police to keep your name confidential.

Pitbulls are on of the most friendliest dog around to be honest. The reason why they are mean is simply because their wns raised them to be mean and hateful. They start by giving the dogs rwa meat covered in blood, so they can get use to the taste and then they will become used to eating so much they want more. Then they go through training to learn how to fight then they are placed into dog fights. But thats just the basic process, you can go int depth about how these dogs love to fight
