Hi Ginger, and welcome to the site.

We have some good general grooming articles in our Dog Grooming category, but nothing specific on grooming Schnauzers. I did a little searching for you and found a DVD that looks like it contains the info you need. Take a look at Miniature Schnauzer Dog Grooming Instructional How To DVD Video and Equipment Guide.

Hope this helps. :)

My dog Ginger goes and gets her hair trimmed at the groomers but is beginning to get to expensive . How do you groom a mini Schnauzer?

Hi Marcia,

I'm sorry to hear about Pepper's behavioral problems. I just recently had a question from another visitor who had the same type of problem with a puppy he received that was just two weeks old when he got it. His situation sounds similar to yours.

Obviously, it takes an unscrupulous or uneducated person to separate a two-week-old puppy from it's mother. Aside from the need to nurse, these puppies would also learn behaviors from their moms and through interactions with their littermates. Without this important developmental experience, these poor dogs don't don't get a chance to learn some of the basic social skills, and it appears to affect them throughout their lives.

I don't know if the prozac will help, but for your sake, I hope it does. Best wishes.

I have a two year old mini schnauzer named Pepper. We found out after we brought her home that she was not actually weaned yet. We discovered that she had no teeth. This was Christams Eve. We could not return her to someone who would do such a thing. We bottle fed her until she got her teeth and was able to eat. At that time I also owned a Boston Terrier named Kacie. She was the perfect little baby. She mothered Pepper as if she were her own. Pepper became very aggressive with us shortly after we got her. She would growl and bite--actually breaking the skin. Last summer my Angel Kacie passed away. Pepper grieved for her almost as much as I have. She has not been the same. Her aggressive behavior has gotten much worse. We have tried everything----trainers, positive reinforcement etc. Nothing has helped. She has bitten several times. We got a new Boston Terrier baby and she has become very aggressive with her. The vet has recommended that we put her down. As a last resort we are trying Prozac and praying that it will work. We are desperate. Wondering if anyone has had similiar experiences or has any suggestions that will save our Pepper. She is not always aggressive. She can be very sweet and loveable. Her behavior is very unpredicatable. She is very intelligent. She has caught on quickly to some commands and just refuses to obey others. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had my mini for a little over a year and she is wonderful! She listens very well. We have just recently tried to breed her with another mini, but we are not sure if she is pregnant or not but I am very excited and hope that she is. She is sooo loving. One time she had ran away and I thought she was gone and i cried!!! I love my baby

I grew up with a remarkable Mini named Sam and a little less than a year ago he passed away. I found a breeder and got a salt and pepper Mini who I named Luci Lu and she is every bit as smart as Sam was! I really love this breed and I am constantly recommending the breed to all my faimily and friends! They are just soooo intelligent! Luci Lu will be 2 years old in August and she knows so many commands and is still learning more! She has never been to formal obedience school but has learned so much from our one on one time training together. They are affectionate, loyal and spunky dogs that I have grown to love tremendously! I plan on adding a male addition to our family this summer.

My wife & I just got a mini on Feb. 23'rd Its ( weeks old & we are amazed @ how smart he seems-- if you tell him to get his ball he'll go get it & bring it to you. If I'm laying on the couch He will lay on my chest & go to sleep if I hum to him. He even try's to go "potty" out side already when we tell him to. If we had known a dog could be this smart & loving we would have gotten a mini schnauzer a lot sooner. Our last dogs were 3 shi zu's & a monster lab that was retarded ( he weighed 160 lb's & hated water !)& none of them seemed as smart as "roofus" we really love this dog!
