Yes, hypoallergenic formulas are very expensive. I'm not sure exactly what your dog is allergic to, but maybe you should research California Naturals to see if they have a formula that would be suitable for your dog's needs. Be sure to consult your vet to make sure this would be an appropriate food for your dog's special needs.
Best of luck with your search, and hopefully other visitors will share their ideas.

-- Contributed by: MBHi Carol,
The surest way to determine exact food allergies is also the most expensive, but it really pays off in the long run. My best advice is to ask your vet to perform the battery of tests for specific food allergies. This will eliminate feeding trial and error, save you money on trying various food brands that may or may not address your dog's problem, and save your dog from extra time suffering.
Thanks for your question, and I hope your vet is able to determine the source of the allergies so your dog can start feeling better soon.
-- Contributed by: KellyMy lab-husky mix has a severe ear infection and is constantly biting her paws. The vet thinks she has allergies. I have eliminated all dairy products (she loved her cheese!) What do you suggest????
-- Contributed by: CarolHi Sharon,
I'm a little surprised your vet isn't willing to make some sort of suggestion since he should be well versed in the subject. I suggest you try one of the brands listed above, but check the ingredient label to make sure there's nothing in it that your vet says triggers the bile reaction. I also recommend purchasing a smaller bag of whichever brand you choose just to get you through the test period. This way you won't wind up with a lot of left over food you can't use.
If you find a particular brand especially helpful, please come back and let us know. Thank you for your question.
