Hi Evangeline,
I'm sorry to hear your puppies are going through such a serious infection. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any information about how amoebiasis affects the skin or what might be required to treat it. Part of any skin problem you noticed could be due to dehydration, a side effect of the terrible diarrhea that is the hallmark of the protozoan's presence in the puppies' intestines. If this is the case, the skin should begin to look normal again once the pups are fully hydrated.
Since your puppies are recovering, I suggest you take your concerns directly to your vet who is already familiar with your situation. I'm sure he/she will be able to advise you on how to proceed from here.
Best wishes for your puppies' full recovery.

-- Contributed by: EVANGELINE YALOMy family and I are considering getting a Great Dane, we just need some advice. We live on the outskirts of the city, we have a medium sized yard and a big house. Our youngest child is 10 yrs old but we have little kids and guests visit alot. We would like a gentle, playful dog because we are an active family but sometimes we just like to lay around. We would like the dog to protect the house if need be. Is a Great Dane right for us.
- Hi Melissa,
Many owners describe Great Danes as gentle giants because they make such wonderful companions. Surprisingly, their exercise needs are quite moderate so your yard size should be just fine.
Now, Danes are not natural watch dogs. That said, their sheer size is intimidating to anyone with bad intentions.
All things considered, You would probably do quite well with this breed. Good luck in your search!
-- Contributed by: MelissaMy wife and I have two danes: one we bought from a breeder and the other we adopted via a rescue organization. The dogs are wonderful! But training is an absolute necessity. One weighs 150 and the other 145 and they are big puppies who don't know their own size and strength. However, their dispositions are wonderful and it's absolutely amazing how gentle they are when we have friends over who have very young children. We have a huge yard, and Sophie will follow the children around the yard to keep an eye out. One day, our neighbor's dog got out and came running towards our yard right in the direction of a 2-year old. Sophie immediately got up and ran so she positioned herself between the neighbor's dog and the toddler. Needless to say, the neighbor's dog stopped in his tracks.
- Hi Millard,
What a great story. Danes are known for being gentle as lambs, but they will do their best to defend the people they love.
Obedience training will make these two dogs ideal pets, plus you'll become even closer after working together.
Thanks for sharing your experience :)
