Hi Mariana,

Looking locally is usually the best way to acquire a new pet. That way you can meet the pup in person and take some time to decide if it's the right fit for your family. Good luck with your search. :)

Hi Everyone,

I always recommend checking locally when trying to find a dog to adopt. Finding a dog online usually involves shipping charges and additional stress for the dog.

Hope you all find the pets you're looking for. :)

Hi Marsel,

It might be a good idea to call your local shelter to see what their policy is on Pitbull puppies when they are turned in. Good luck with your search.

Hi Shymes,

Your best bet is to search for a new pet locally. Pitbulls can have uncertain temperamments, so it's best to spend time with the animal while you're considering adoption. While you can find pets to adopt on the Internet, there are likely transportation costs involved. It's just a little easier and potentially safer to look for a dog locally. Good luck with your search. :)

Hi Mikey,

I'm sorry to hear you won't be able to keep your pet. It would be better to search for a new home locally because it would eliminate the possible need for shipping, and you could meet prospective adopters in person so you could be sure they would be the right fit for your dog. You could try putting ads up on bulletin boards at pet supply stores or even putting an ad in the pet section of your local newspaper.

Thanks for sharing your situation, and best wishes on finding your pet a wonderful new home.

Hi Despina,

I'm so sorry to hear about your family's loss. Your best option for finding a new Pitbull pup is to check the pets section of your local newspaper. Sometimes shelters also take in litters of young puppies, so you could call one in your area and leave your name there in case any come in. Searching locally is best because you can really check out the puppy's temperament to make sure it will blend well with your family.

Good luck with your search. :)

We just lost our pit bull Hercules of 14 yrs & we are all devastated, especially my father. He cries ever day. We do no have a lot of money, so if anyone has any info on pit bull puppies please e-mail me. For the sake of my father's mental health, we will give this dog a great home with lots of love!

Hi Kevin,

Actually, the Pitbull isn't recognized by the AKC as an official breed. The kennel certificate you mention may be from the CKC or another dog club that offers registry for breeds that AKC currently does not. If so, there should be directions on the back on how to obtain full registration if this is just a litter registration slip. Most registries also require you to enclose a fee with the application.

As for training, you're right to be thinking about that now. Pits can be strong-minded, so the first thing you want to do is enroll your pup in a puppy socialization class at a nearby dog training facility. Be prepared that some establishments may decline to enroll your dog because of his breed and the bad publicity it has received. Still, you can hopefully find a class. This will teach your dog to accept new things calmly and also to get along with other dogs and people. By six-months-old, you can progress to basic obedience training. This will help you establish yourself as your puppy's leader and you'll both learn useful commands that will help you control your dog in most situations. I'd recommend obedience training for any dog, but especially so for such a strong dog as a Pitbull.

Hopefully that's enough information to help you get started. Feel free to ask more questions as they arise. We're here to help. :)

Hi Courtney, and welcome to the site.

Your best option would be to check your local newspaper to see if any one is trying to give puppies away. Just keep in mind the cost of vaccinations and dog food and be sure you can afford to keep a puppy if you get one because it can get a little expensive. Good luck!
