Hi Charlie,
Thanks for your input. It's wonderful to see training methods evolving into a positive situation for everyone. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyThe army and police use clicker training and positive reinforcement for their dogs, on who their own lives, and the lives of others, depend - there is as of now NO excuse to "punish" a dog.

In obedience training, the first lesson is all about teaching the dog to ignore distractions and watch his leader, and this is especially useful when you're outside and there are hundreds of distractions to capture your dog's attention. Even though your dog listens well in other areas, it may be good to take him through the course so he bonds with you as his leader and learns to obey in all situations. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyWe just rescued a 4 yr old terrier/lab mix. he does great with commands and training inside, but outside he is so excited to be out, he doesnt come to his name, treats, etc. I'm afraid he will run out the door and into the street or get hit because of his excitedness and "zoning us out". Any suggestions?
