Hi Mary, and welcome to the site.
I'm sorry to hear about your dog. This is a question best asked of your vet, and I do recommend you take your dog in for an exam. Sedation should not result in blood in the urine. A sign like this could be caused by a bad urinary tract infection or perhaps an internal injury. It would be best to let your vet figure out what's going on.
Best wishes for your dog's health.
-- Contributed by: KellyMy yorkie/poo was sedated to be groomed (she hates to be groomed - this is the only way to get her groomed). Since coming home I've noticed blood in her urine. Could this be a side affect of the anesthesia?
-- Contributed by: MaryHi Anne,
Good question. I'm not a vet, but if this was just a one time occurrence, it could have been due to a small stone. You should continue to watch for additional blood in the urine and any other symptoms and/or behavioral changes that might provide more clues. If you notice it happen again, go ahead and give the vet a call.
Thanks for your question, and best wishes for your dog's health.
-- Contributed by: KellyMy Dog was peeing blood for one day. He's a 4 year old ...zu. He was eating and drinking as always. He wasn't lethargic, or different in any way. It disappeared after that day. He didn't seem to have any discomfort. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? What could the cause of something like this be?
Thanks, Anne
-- Contributed by: AnneHi Susan,
I'm really surprised the vet didn't want to analize a urine sample. Blood in the urine might indicate a urinary tract infection or an internal injury. It might be best to get a second opinion, but be sure to tell the new doctor what happened with your old doctor and ask if the new clinic will want to run tests. There's no point in switching vets unless the new vet plans to persue a diagnosis a little more aggressively.
Thanks for sharing your situation, and best wishes for your dog's health.
-- Contributed by: KellyMy almost 6 year old Schnauzer is passing blood in her urine without any others symptoms. I took her to the vet and he said without other symptoms, just to watch her. he did not collect a urine specimen. should I get another opinion?
-- Contributed by: SusanHi Shirley,
Since your dog is still having difficulties, it would be best to contact your vet again. If this isn't a typical urinary tract infection, it's possible a growth could be obstructing your dog's urethra somehow. It's certainly worth another discussion and exam if the medication isn't producing any results.
Thanks for your question, and best wishes that the problem is soon diagnosed and resolved.
-- Contributed by: KellyMy 2 year old Bischon has been on Baytril 22.7 mg and Cephalexin 250 mg for a bladder infection. The Vet could not take a urine sample. He said no stones. She is still bleeding and still forcing her urine. It was a week Sunday since she has been on the Baytril. He put her on Cephalexin on the December 19th. Should I be worried that she is still bleeding alittle bit and still wanting to go outside and force her urine. She is better than a week ago. Thank you for your time, Shirley
