-- Contributed by: dogloverthanks for the recipe! i've been trying to find a simple recipe w/ stuff i don't have to do much and i have it all in the house all ready!
-- Contributed by: dogloverHi Georgie,
The recipe calls for canned dog food and this is already cooked at the processing plant, so it isn't raw. That said, you should always follow sanitary procedures when cooking raw meat whether it's for dogs or people.
As for more suggestions, check out our article on Dog Cakes. These recipes are also suitable for use and birthday cakes. :)
-- Contributed by: Kellyhey, ME AGAIN! Do u hav any other suggestions??? =)

-- Contributed by: Kellydo u have a recomendation for icing for this cake? we r making it for my dogs wedding, and want to decorate it.
-- Contributed by: savannahHi Jamie,
Yes, the canned food is wet and you need it to provide moisture content to the mix. :)
-- Contributed by: KellySo the canned food is wet food? Or can it be dry?
-- Contributed by: JamiHi John,
The eggs are necessary to bind the ingredients and help them rise. You might want to experiment with "EggBeaters" egg substitute and see if the recipe still works. Let us know how it turns out. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyIs there anything to substitute the eggs with? Or will baking it without eggs turn well?
-- Contributed by: johnHi Patterson,
That's a great idea. Thanks for contributing!
-- Contributed by: KellyHello, I would like to suggest that you can use sugar free yogurt (any flavored) for icing, it would be pretty if you used vaniila for the main icing, and then using pink and some other colors for perhaps the dog's name and age, or balloons or bones, etc.
-- Contributed by: Pattersonhi can is this safe for humans to eat too? or only dogs?
- Hello again,
Since this recipe calls for actual canned dog food, I wouldn't recommend sharing it with people. However, we do have some recipes in our article on Dog Cakes that are safe to share with your dog. They only call for human grade foods.
Thanks for your question!
-- Contributed by: briannacan you make more easy recipes! loved this recipe and so did my dog!i the ingredint were things i could actually find and i new what they were! Thank you soo much!
- Hi Brianna,
I'm glad you enjoyed preparing this recipe. You can experimant with adding different foods to flavor it. Try adding a quarter cup of crumbled bacon. Most dogs love the flavor. Chopped apples and carrots are another great addition. As long as the food is safe for dogs, feel free to experiment. Let us know if you come up with something especially good!
-- Contributed by: briannaHi, my dog is on a special diet, can you suggest a cake recipe that does not involve flour?
- Hi Jen,
Good question. If your dog is able to eat corn, you might experiment with substituting cornmeal for the flour. If you give it a try, let us know how it works out. I'm sure there must be other dogs with dietary restrictions that could benefit.
Thanks for your question. :)
hi, ummm why would I give my english springer spaniel, jack sugar isnt it bad for dogs?
- Hello,
Dogs' sugar intake should be limited. That's why the recipe provided lists that ingredient as optional. Although sugar can be included, this is a once a year event, so you have to keep that in perspective. The sugar would be much more detrimental if it were being served year round. Thanks for a good question.
-- Contributed by: msk8tergrl77Hey, great recipe for the doggie cake. I made it for my Goldren Retriver and my Chihuahua x Pomeranian on their Birthdays, they LOVED it :D
- Hi Vala,

- Hi Vanessa, we'll work on it!
Hi Gypsy,
I can't guarantee this list is complete or completely accurate, but it is quite extensive.

-- Contributed by: Kellythank you. this is lovely. now...PLEASE...could you tell me where i can find a list of "dangerous" foods for doggies, especially puppies? like raisins, i discovered belatedly? why? aren't grapes great for joints&rheumatism like humans?? how about peppermint-the plant-"raw"? i'd appreciate ANY assistance, and i thank you, in advance.
