Hi Jessica,

As long as your dog isn't allergic to potato flour, I think it would work as a substitute. :)

I have a dog that has grain allergies, can I use potato flour in any of these recipes? Or do you know of another grain free substitute for the flour?

Hi Samantha,

If you need to make the cake that far ahead of time, I recommend that you freeze it instead of refrigerate it. Be sure to give it plenty of time to thaw before serving. :)

I want to make the cake 2 weeks prior and leave in my fridge....is it still going to be good?

Hi Amanda,

That's another great idea that I hadn't thought of. My dogs love cottage cheese, and as long as you plan to keep it refrigerated that would make a great "icing".

Thanks for the tip!

Hi Alice,

You could cut the measurments in half and that would produce a smaller yield. Instead of using an 8x8 inch pan you might be able to use a bread loaf pan instead, or separate the batter into a set of those mini loaf pans only using as many as you need to. You could put the extra loaves into ziplock sandwhich backs and keep them in the freezer for up to two months.

Of course, you could always back the entire recipe and invite some canine pals to share.

Thanks for your question, and I hope these suggestions help.

if you have a smaller dog, is there a way to make the recipes smaller, and if there is, how much smaller should you make it?

Hi Tara, great question.

Unless your dog is a diabetic, it's alright to use the colored tube frosting for writing on the cake because you really won't use very much. If you need to avoid sugar, you can add paste food coloring (like cake decorators use) to some cream cheese plus a little cream of tartar to help it hold its shape better. Put the colored cream cheese in a pastry bag with a writing tip, preferably a number one or two, and pipe away. You'll still want to keep the cake refrigerated so the writing doesn't melt too much to be read.

Thanks for your question, and I hope this tip works for you. :)
