Hi Lisa,
Yes, the Cushings and overactive thyroid are directly related. It's the thyroid gland's over production of cortisol that lies at the heart of the disease. I can't say whether the seizures are directly caused by the Cushings, but there's a slight possibility if your dog has a pituitary tumor as mentioned in the article above.
Overall, I recommend that you ask your vet for more information. Cushings carries so many symptoms that it's often quite difficult to arrive at the diagnosis. Thank goodness your vet pulled all the info together.
Thanks for your question, and best wishes for your dog's health.

-- Contributed by: lisaHi Patricia,
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Cushing's is a tough disease to diagnose and treat. I know that must have been a very hard decision to make, but I think you did the right thing. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

-- Contributed by: KellyWe had a 12 year old yellow Lab that we euthenized last week due to advanced Cushing's. We had had him on treastment using Lysodern, but it didn't work with our dog. Just before he died, he had lost 20 pounds, he could barely stand, and his breathing was labored and painful to hear. Putting him to sleep was an agonizing decision, but we knew it was best for our dear friend.

I'm glad you found this article helpful.
-- Contributed by: KellyI was doing a little more research on Cushings disease and found your link. Thank you so much for the last line. My geriatric chihuahua-terrier mix has Cushings, and his vet and I decided not to treat him. I've been second-guessing my decision for days and weeks now, and reading this last line validated my decision. I will let him peacefully be for as long as he's happy.
