Hi Lisa,

I have a lot of respect for Cesar too. :)

Hi Alan,

I agree with you, you have to experiment a bit to find the right training style fit for each dog. Trainers may disagree about which method is best, but Cesar has undoubtedly had a lot of success emulating the way dogs correct each other. :)

Cesar gets a lot of flak from other dog trainers who prefer reward based training rather than pack leader type training. Having had numerous dogs - and raised 3 kids - they are all individuals, what may work for one may not be the best option for another. On the whole I have had better results following Cesars advice. I am currently working on a dominant grandson, Ha. Seriously I am constantly complimented on how well behaved and relaxed my dogs are. Thank you Cesar.

Hi Patricia,

I agree, Cesar really has a great connection with the dogs. As for your own pet, have you put him through obedience yet? You could use the down/stay command to give your dog a time out and a few moments to calm down in order to curb the jumping. I think it would help. :)

I think he is fantastic and watch all his shows. Just wish we could have him over here as well. Would love him to help my Shar Pei who is nine months old and we can't stop her from jumping up at everyone it sometimes hurts, also when she gets excited she wee's. I rate him 200 out of 100.We have tried the water bottle and some other things but still she does it. Nobody can match Ceasar.

Hi Sarah,

Your question was recently answered on our Ask the Dog Expert page. You'll find it there for a short time and then it will be moved to the behavior problems category found in the links near the bottom of the page. :)

Hi Marina,

Are you teaching commands on your own, or are you enrolled in an obedience class? I highly recommend enrolling your dog in obedience if you haven't already. The first lesson teaches your dog to pay attention to you and ignore other distractions. This is essential before you can move on to teaching the recall. Otherwise your dog may feel too tempted by other interesting things to obey your command.

Thanks for your question, and I hope you enjoy the classes. I always found them a lot of fun.

We have a 19 month old rat terrier/jack russell mix he is learning comands quick but we have a lot of problems with him coming back to us when we call him. we can not let him off his leash at all he will not come back to us at all what can we do? thanks marina

Hi Teresa, and welcome to the site.

It's very important to gain control over this pup right away or the problems will grow more dangerous as he grows older. My advice is to enroll in puppy class right away. This will help you socialize your pet in a controlled environment, and the instructor will specific ways to discourage the unwanted behaviors.

Later on, it will be necessary to take your dog through obedience training. This training is truly the key to establishing your role as your pet's pack leader. It will also help control his behavior.

Thanks for your question, and best wishes that your situation has a happy ending. :)

Hi Jeanne,

I just checked both the Canine Psychology Center and National Geographic site links provided in this article, and they are working at this time. Check to make sure you have pop ups enabled on your computer because this sometime interfers with navagating between websites.

Thanks for your question, and I hope you're able to access what you're looking for.

I can't get onto Cesar's official website. It won't come up. Will you please check it?

Hi Rosemarie,

I'm sorry, but Cesar Millan doesn't actually work at LoveToKnow. I don't have any information about dog eye clinics in Mexico, but you might be able to find something out by contacting a university, either in Mexico or perhaps just across the border in Texas.

Good luck with your search. :)

Hello Cesar, can you please recommend a clinic for dog eye surgery in Mexico, near the US border. My english ...er spaniel,7years old, has developed severe Cataracts on both eyes. Here in Canada we have to pay 4000.00$. I am sure, I can have her eyes done and have a vacation at the same time. I love your show and love to hear from you.

Hi Mary,

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. Cesar Millan doesn't actually work for LoveToKnow, so you may want to try to contact him by looking up his website. In the meantime, we just did an interview with the producers of his show who have just written a book do...enting the first three years of the series. The book contains a wealth of training info on a variety of common behavior problems many owners face. You might find this book useful in your situation. You can read the interview and find a link to purchase the book in our article The Dog Whisperer.

Best wishes.

DearMr.Millan, Mommy has to give my BABY, the animal that gives life meaning to me, away. Can you possibly, at all, train us to be better dog owners, PLEASE!

-- Contributed by: Mary

Our adopted yellow lab came to us with some neuroses. One that I can't figure out is that whenever a car door is open, he is desperate to get in; but once the car starts moving he goes nuts! Crying, yelping, digging, chewing. Why would he want to get into the car, but then go crazing when we start driving?

-- Contributed by: Chris

Hi Elana,

You can begin your search by contacting your local dog training facility to see if they offer classes to become a trainer. You can also watch the Dog Whisperer to learn how Cesar approached different types of behavior problems and adopt the techniques yourself. Some of the people Cesar has helped have gone on to become behaviorists themselves.

Good luck with your search, and I wish you every success!

Dear Cesar,

I have two border collies, they get plenty of exercise in the yard but will not go on walks, they pull and fixate on anything they can such as cars, people, rabbits and run away. Also, we recently kenneled them for two days while we were out of town at my niece's wedding. One of the boys has been whining and barking when I go to bed, and he never lets up. I am also moving and am worried sick about how the one whiner will adjust. I am moving to a bigger house with a nice backyard.

please help, Mary

Hi Cesar, I am from the Gold Coast,Queensland, Australia. I have been a dog owner and lover (unfortunately for the dog and me) in a human way, all my life. My introduction to dogs was by my father, who bought a dog when I was 6, because I was terrified of them. Then I started bringing every dog I found home with me. I have been totally blown away by your show and would love to get involved and help Australians with their dogs. I would love to know more to be able to help and understand my dog, and also other dogs and their owners (pack leaders). Good luck, you are my hero. I understand and realise that I have been doing the wrong thing by my pets, and feel so sad. I thought they were all my babies. I really thought they were happy. You made me see what is really possible. Many thanks and I hope I can help some Gold Coast families in the future. Kind regards, Helen Creaser
