Hi Leslie,

I also know someone who owns a Catahoula, and she says her dog is very intelligent and good with the family. :)

Hi Krys,

That's really interesting. It's amazing what can be found out from a DNA test. Aside from that, I'm so glad your rescued that pup. I hope the other puppies were lucky enough to find good homes with such caring people. :)

We just picked up a cute girl from a flea market. The owners had them crammed in a small cage out in the heat, so we took one (wished we could have taken them all) that looked like it needed the most love. They told us she was a pit bull, but we sent off DNA testing, and she came back 50% catahoula!

My husband and I adopted a Catahoula several months back and she has been a great dog. She is highstrung, but we have a large yard which she enjoys. She does well with our children and other pets. I definitely would recommend this breed to anyone who is looking for a great family dog.

Hi Bella,

Charley sounds like a real treasure. I'm sure he's just as lucky to have you as you are to have him. :)

I found Charley abandoned by the DFW airport late one evening. He was extremely emaciated and shaking but showed no fear or aggression towards me as I opened the car door. After much vet care and a bit of socializing(He was terrified of men, coat hangers, and big garbage trucks) he is the most loving and bright friend I have ever known. We live 9 months on the road and he happily goes with us and hangs out while we work! He has one ice blue eye and one ice blue/brown eye with a brindle coat. It appears he is a basset mix with a long body and short legs...EVERYONE asks.."So what is he??" I just call him Charley..the semi-wonder dog!

I have a rescued Catahoula that came from Tennessee when he was 6 weeks old. Born under an abandoned car i knew i could give him a better place to grow up. I flew him back to Massachusetts and he is the smartest dog i have had and i have had a Border Collie and Golden Retreiver. He's our King of the House, I recommend to anyone who wants a good family dog a Catahoula!

We got Jack, our catahoulaxlab, from Catahoula Rescue two months ago. We had never heard of catahoulas yet alone know anything about them, but I'm so glad we do now! Jack is 10 months old and like the article says full of energy!! He is very intelligent and also very entertaining! And he has certaintly gotten us in shape with our daily walks. If you have the energy, I highly recommend a catahoula.

Currently i own a 6 month old blue leopard puppy and she is quite a handful. She already weighs close to 40lbs. We got her when she was 9 weeks old and have been socializing her with other dogs ever since. Daily she requires a drive to the dog park for at least an hour or she will tire out my other dog. She is incredibly smart and even though she is a challenge it makes it all the more awarding. I love my catahoula!

HI, I have a blue heelerxcataoula. I gave him to my mom when i moved yo the country, it was hard letting him go, but my mom really loves him. I would like to find another like him. He was real easy to train. If you live in Texas and raise this breed, leave a post here. Thanks!
