Hi Nancy, and thanks for sharing your opinion.
You're right. A lot of people who used to be happy with Canidae are now having problems with it. A list of those problems is provided as well as the fact that a lot of people who called Canidae were unhappy with the service. It really seems like the formula change could wind up spoiling what was once a good brand.
-- Contributed by: KellyThere have been a number of incidents with this brand of dog food and another group is showing up on Consumer reports as having happened recently June & July 09 where dogs are becoming ill or dying from Canidae. Many of them have been on the brand for a long time and all the sudden falling ill. Diamond is currently producing for Canidae and Diamond has not had a stellar track record.

Honestly, I don't believe you should ever fully put your trust in any pet food company. The best you can do is familiarize your self with the label of a brand your dog does well on, and then read that ingredients list each time you purchase the next bag. It's not the perfect solution, but it does increase your chances of catching a switch in the formula that could cause your dog upset.
Some brands that tend to get favorable reviews include Solid Gold Hunden and Flocken, and Orijen. You might want to investigate these brands further.
And just be sure this isn't something more than a problem with your dog's diet, it might be a good idea to schedule an exam with your vet.
Thanks for your question. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyI was wondering why my dogs have been sick lately, throwing up, and very loose stools. Who can you trust with your pets foods?
-- Contributed by: judyHi Nancy,
Thanks for sharing your comments too. The last couple of comments before your own are from late summer and autumn of 2008.
-- Contributed by: Kellysince there are no dates on any of these comments, I have no idea what the time frame of these comments is,but we were told by our store, Benson's, late summer '08, I believe, that there had been a change in the grain to millet. Our Chocolate lab had no trouble changing. Maybe some distibutors or store were not informed or thought it was no big deal. Also some dogs are more sensitive than others.

Thanks for sharing your experience. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyBoth of my dogs (Sheltie and Belgian Malinois) had bad reactions to the new formula. My husband was the first to notice. He said it smelled different. I told him it was the normal Canidae. After a few weeks I was very frustrated that both my dogs were having gas, abnormal stools, and not eating. I asked my pet shop about it and they didn't know and after my own research on the internet I found out that there was a change. My pet shop promptly put up signs in their store and were very glad to know about it, since their distributor didn't even know.

I'm glad your experience has been a good one. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyI have had no problem switching to the new canidae formula. I followed their guidelines by mixing the old with the new and everything went great!! THEY STILL MAKE A GREAT FOOD!!
-- Contributed by: DadogHi Bob and Chloe,
There is a lot of controversy brewing over whether canola oil is safe. The fact is, this oil is produced from rapeseed, and it has typically been used as a light industrial lubricant. The oil from the natural plant is toxic to people and animals. The rape plant was supposedly genetically modified to produce an oil that could be safely used for human and animal consumption. However, reports of illnesses and a variety of adverse symptoms continue to be reported in people and pets.
Whether or not it is ever conclusively determined if canola is safe for consumption, I do believe that dog food brands should make it clear to customers when they change their formula in any way. Customers should have the opportunity to be fully informed about the choices they make on behalf of their pets.
Thank you for contribiting.

They were deceitful the way they switched formulas without telling people. They have lost our business for good.
