Hi Barbie,
I can't be sure of what caused your dog's illness, but if she went down this quickly, it indicates a very serious health crisis. The best thing you can do is take her to the emergency vet right away before she grows any weaker.
Thanks for sharing your situation, and I'll keep your pet in my thoughts. Best wishes for her speedy return to full health.

-- Contributed by: BarbieHi Vanessa,
I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your dog. Although this sounds like it could have been due to ingesting a toxic substance, there's no way to know for sure without having your vet perform a necropsy. The vet could certainly check the blood for toxicity. You mentioned your other dog had the same symptoms previously. Did you ever find out what caused them? There might be something in your yard that your dogs have eaten that could be the cause. Mushrooms are often a culprit.
I wish I could be more specific, but I'd really only be guessing without lab reports to confirm. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your dog.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I don't believe algae toxicity works that quickly. Did you notice a blue-green s... on the water or collected around the shore? It would have been easy to see. You would also have likely seen blue-green staining on your dog's coat and mouth.
It would be more likely that your dog suffered a heart attack. If it was a poisoning, it probably involved another source.
The only way to know for sure what happened would have been to ask your vet to perform a necropsy right away. All of that said, I'm sorry for your loss.
Thanks for your question and best wishes for the health of your other dogs.
-- Contributed by: KellyAbout a month ago we took three of our dogs swimming. However our Dalmation who was 8 years old passed away on the car ride home. We didn't even know what happened we opened the door to let them out and she was curled up on the floor dead. I have heard of this happening on two other occasions in the area. It took less than 30 minutes, I'm guessing. We live by the columbia river and we took them to a shallow boat dock to swim... Could it have been blue algae posioning?
-- Contributed by: AngelHi Brenda,
I recommend you try enticing your dog to eat with some real meat. Boiled ground beef or chicken is very tempting, and you can boil some brown rice with it for added nutrition. Hopefully this will spark your dog's appetite. If it does, you can gradually begin adding some kibble to the broth; let soak and then serve it. You can gradually phase out the beef and chicken unless you enjoy preparing it.
Thanks for your question, and I hope this suggestion turns out helpful. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyI have a 13 year old Cocker that has gotten e coli bacteria a few weeks ago. I took him to the vet and they gave him a shot and some pills for 7 days. On day 8 he finally ate a little bit but then threw it up. I took him back to the vet where they kept him for 2 days giving him injections. They sent him home yesterday but he is still not eating. I have tried biscuits, peanut butter to get him to take the new pills. Is there anything I can feed him that he may be interested in?
-- Contributed by: BrendaOur Welsh Corgi=Pembroke has been drinking a lot of water and vomiting lately. I fed him rice and hamburger for a while and he seemed to have gotten better. Today, he started drinking lots of water again and vomiting. In addition, he seems to have trouble peeing. One of his scrotum didn't go down the right place. Could it be blocking his urinary tract? Could it be painful that he wants to purge the pain by trying to pee?
- Hi Jade,
Actually, it sounds as though your dog may have a kidney stone blocking him from peeing. This can lead to a toxicity problem that will make him very sick. The best thing you can do is take him to a vet right away. If there's a blockage, your vet will be able to see it with an ultrasound and deal with the problem from there.
Thanks for your question, and I hope everything turns out alright.
