Hi Kara,

Bloodhounds can be very laid back dogs, so some are prone to becoming overweight if they aren't encouraged to exercise. Neutering itself doesn't cause a dog to become overweight. It's just that it gives him one less reason to get up and chase a female for a little exercise.

If your are considering having your dog neutered, or you already have done it, just make sure he's getting regular exercise. Take him for long walks, encourage him to play ball with you or other activities. This will help stave off excessive weight gain and help your dog stay toned and healthy.

Thanks for your question. :)

Hi Tracy,

Unfortunately, milk production doesn't present a reliable way to guage when a dog will go into labor. I have a few articles that offer a lot more info on dog pregnancy. Hopefully you'll find them helpful.

In the meantime, go ahead and prepare a place for your dog to whelp. That way you'll be ready whenever she does go into labor.

Thanks for your question, and good luck. :)
