Hi Chantelle,
Hopefully your dog is feeling alright otherwise. If you notice anything else that seems abnormal, don't be afraid to call your vet for an exam. In the meantime, you may want to do some retraining to reinforce good house habits. Treat him like a puppy and limit his run of the house. Take him out on a regular and frequent schedule using a one word command for the deed. Be sure to praise him when he goes outside instead of indoors.
Thanks for sharing your situation, and I hope these suggestions help. :)
-- Contributed by: Kellyi love ...er spaniel. i have one right now. he is 4 years old. he is being naughty lately. he is running off and pooping in the house.
-- Contributed by: chantelleHi Melanie,
This sounds like it could be the beginning of a condition called cherry eye. A gland in the third eyelid become swollen and turns blood red. Vets manage this condition with anti-inflammatory eye drops. In the worst cases, it may become necessary to surgically replace the gland.
I recommend you have your vet take a look at the eye now before it has a chance to get any worse. This could just be a temporary problem due to an injury, but if it is cherry eye, you want to begin treatment right away.
Thanks for your question, and I hope your dog's eye is better soon. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyI have a ...er spaniel and on her one eye her inner eye lid fromthe corner is out looks just like a bubble of the pink tissue is there any other way to treat this other then surgery?
-- Contributed by: MelanieHi Claribel,
I've had several dogs spayed with very little problem. They are a bit groggy the first day after the surgery, but they bounce back very fast barring any infection at the surgical site. None of my dogs went through a personality change, but they were fairly mellow to begin. I wouldn't worry too much about the procedure as long as you are working with an experienced vet. Don't be afraid to share your concerns with your vet, he/she might be able to answer any questions you might have and put your mind at ease.
Thanks for sharing your situation. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyHello, My question, my female American C...er Spaniel is getting spay, she is 6 years of age. What are the side effects after surgery. I'm a little scare of the procedure. Right now she is a very friendly playful dog, would that change? Thanks,
-- Contributed by: ClaribelHi Namrata,
It's my understanding that ...ers are moderate shedders, so brushing several times a week, along with regular vacuuming should keep floating fur to a minimum. As for which sex you should get, two males can get along unless they are both alpha personalities. If you decide to get a female, my advice is to have one or both dogs spayed/neutered as soon as possible to avoid problems with unwanted breeding.
Thanks for your question, and best of luck whatever you decide. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyHello,
My question is we are thinking of getting a black 2 month old female ACSpaniel. However since we have a 5 and a half year old Labrador (Male). Is it ok to get a female as a second dog or would you advise getting a male instead. Also do cocker spaniels shed a lot or is it easy to control.
thanks]
thanks

According to the American Kennel Club, American Cocker Spaniels should have a scissors bite. This means the upper teeth fit just in front of the lower teeth along the front of the jaw. Anything other than this would be considered and incorrect bite.
Thanks for your question. :)
-- Contributed by: KellyHi!
How do you know whether acocker pup has a bad bite? An dwhat should be the ideal bite?
Thanks.
-- Contributed by: Nolican a ...er spaniel get a yeast infection threw the ears if they can how does that problem accure n how can u prevent it from happening?
- Hi Tamara,
Yes, dogs do get yeast infections in their ears. Yeast is actually present all the time, and it's growth is kept in check by healthy bacteria. However, yeast flourishes in warm moist environments.
The best way to keep a dog from having recurrent yeast infections in the ear canals is to remove the hair that grows inside; this will increase air flow to keep conditions from becoming moist and plugged. You'll also be able to clean out the ears much easier.
If you suspect your dog has an infection right now, let your vet take a look. He/She will clean out and medicate the canals to get the problem under control.
Thanks for your question.
-- Contributed by: tamaraI have a very loving 4 year old male pit/lab how do ...er spaniels and other dogs get a long?
- Hi Toni,
That can really only be judged on a dog by dog basis. However, you should be aware that most Pitbulls tend to develop an intolerance for other dogs around eighteen months old. The fact that your dog is part Lab helps negate this trait. On the other hand, if your dog hasn't been around other dog much over the last four years, that could make introducing a new pet into your household a bit more difficult. Whatever you do, move slowly to allow for the best chance of success.
Good luck!
-- Contributed by: toniThat depends on what you are feeding him, and how much exercise he gets. Commercial kibbles have feeding guidelines on the bag that are based on your dog's size. A Cocker would be considered a medium size breed.
Begin by following the manufacturer's suggestions and watch your dog's weight and condition. If he seems to be too thin, add a little more. If he begins getting a little too fat, cut back slightly until he's maintaining a healthy weight.
