Hi Suzie,
Wow, that does sound overboard. That's the first time I've ever heard of rescue operators wanting to be flown in and put up in a hotel.
I still think adoption is a good idea, but I encourage everyone to check out rescue organizations and shelters in their local area to avoid these kinds of problems. It's difficult to judge exactly who you are dealing with on the Internet, and you never know who's running a scam.
Thanks for sharing your experience, and I am glad that you found a dog for your family.

I tried adopting a dog 3 years ago. I tried and looked for one and a half years! I can tell you from experience that they (rescues)are crazy people!! Most wanted me to fly a couple of people in to check out my home & they wanted me to put them up in a hotel!!!! I ended up buying a dog from a breeder because of these weirdo rescues. Their screening procedures are terrible. How am I unfit, because my dog only went to a vet once a year. Good luck adoptingI might add that I only chose dogs that they said were great with children and other animals. My experience is that most of them dont really want to adopt out any of the dogs, at least the ones we requested. What a shame. Our then puppy that we bought is a healthy, happy three year old! These crazy rescues send people like me to in home breeders, as well as the puppy mills. When you want a family dog, you want a family dog. I never, ever thought I would buy a dog, but because of them.I DID and I dont regret it!!

I'm so sory to hear your dog is missing. My advice is to check with your local shelters first. You may actually find your dog has been turned in there. If not, the shelter staff can talk with you about their adoption procedures so you know what's involved. Hopefully you'll be able to find a new dog you can love as much as you love your missing dog. Best of luck in your search.

If you have room in your life for another pet, why not check out your local shelter. There are many wonderful dogs just waiting for a family of their own. :)

Hi Yocasta,
Your best bet is to begin your search at a local shelter. You might also want to check your local newspaper's pet section. Sometimes owners need to find new homes for perfectly good pets due to a move or some other major lifestyle change.
Good luck in your search!
