Roy Jones Dog Show Background
Before the first competitor ever enters the venue, Roy Jones Dog Shows of Auburn, Indiana is busy performing all the behind the scenes work necessary to put on a top notch dog show.
Roy Jones Dog Shows, also known as Sleeper Dog Shows is one of a number of AKC approved superintendents that works with many kennel clubs in the Midwest. In conjunction with the club's Show Secretary, a superintendent performs many functions. Their job is to provide premium lists and entry forms for shows throughout the Midwestern USA, as well as all equipment necessary for ring set up.
The Premium List
The premium list is the first notification an exhibitor will receive that a dog show is going to take place. As the show superintendent, Roy Jones Dog Shows receives the pertinent information from a kennel club's show secretary, prints it into a premium list and distributes it to all exhibitors on it's mailing list. In the premium you will find:
- The date, location and time of the dog show.
- The cost to enter your dog(s).
- A list of all judges by breed, group and Best in Show.
- Directions to the venue.
- Prizes for winners.
- Pertinent rules, and statements of liability.
Dog Show Catalog
As exhibitor entries are received, Roy Jones Dog Shows compiles all the information to be printed into a show catalog. This catalog becomes available the day of the show and contains a wealth of information. In the catalog you will find:
- The complete show schedule, with a listing of the time each breed will be shown, which ring will be used, and the judge's schedule. Note; if a judge change has taken place, it will be noted here.
- A listing for each dog entered including the full AKC name, registration number, date of birth, breeder(s), current owner(s), and handler name if one is being used.
- Current table of how many dogs needed to earn championship points.
- In the back of the catalog is a listing of all the exhibitors with contact information. Very useful if you are looking for breeder contacts.
Entry Confirmation
Approximately two weeks before the show date, the superintendent will send exhibitors confirmation of their entry and an abbreviated version of the schedule found in the show catalog. Though this listing does not contain the names of one's competitors, it does let the exhibitor know how many dogs and bitches are entered in a particular breed, and how many champions will also compete for Best of Breed. This is a good indicator of how many championship points will be awarded to the winners.
Show Set Up
The night before the show, Roy Jones Dog Shows pulls in to set up all ring fencing and floor mats, numbered ring signs, steward tables, and ring grooming/examination tables. All necessary paperwork for the judging records, and winner's ribbons are also provided.
After The Show
Once the show is over, Roy Jones deducts their recording fees and expenses from the entry fees, and gives the host kennel club a check for the rest of the proceeds from the show. The superintendent's crew then packs up all the show equipment to be returned until the next show. The complete judging results from the show are then forwarded directly to the AKC where they will be recorded and preserved.
