Lost Dog Comes Home Sick
From LoveToKnow Dogs
When a dog becomes lost, he's exposed to many risks. He could encounter other sick animals; he may not find enough to eat and drink. Add a great deal of stress to these less than ideal conditions and you have a recipe for a sick dog.
One visitor shares her very real concerns after her own lost dog comes home sick.
Lost Dog Comes Home Sick
Kelly,
I have a small mixed breed dog. He went missing for about five days, and when he came back he was very skinny. Now he eats very little if at all. What could be wrong with him?

Hi Diane,
I wouldn't hesitate to have your vet give your dog a thorough examination. There's just no way to be sure what happened to him during the time he was missing, but your vet will check him for specific illness and injury.
In the meantime, your dog's tummy may have shrunk from starvation, and this could play a role in his reluctance to eat. The longer it takes him to resume normal eating, the harder it will be for his body to accept the nutrition. Is he willing to drink water? If not, he's in danger of becoming dehydrated, and this can only complicate the situation.
You have my very best wishes for your dog's recovery~~ Kelly

my dog has been missing for three days. when do u think she will be back?
- Hi Stephanie, I think your best chance of finding your dog is to make up some flyers with her picture and post them around your neighborhood. You can also try calling your local shelters and veterinary clinics to see if she has been brought in.
Best of luck with your search.
