House Accidents Away from Home

What can you do when your dog has house accidents away from home?
Problem: House Accidents Away from Home
I have a three-year-old female Puggle that has been having house accidents when we visit my friends' and family's houses. This happens even when she has access to the outside. She has no problems at home, just when visiting other houses.
She is comfortable at all these houses and I am usually there with her. The only thing I can think of is that she sometime becomes a little more excited than usual because there are often children or another dog around. However, it can happen even when that is not the case. Any suggestions about what I can do to stop this behavior?

Hi Anne,
Generally speaking, Puggles can be difficult to house train. It's sounds like you're ahead of the game having managed to train your dog at your own home.
The problem when taking your dog to other people's homes is that it is fresh territory to your dog. She smells a world of unusual scents and she has an urge to mark some territory for her own.
I don't think there is an easy cure for this problem. You can try being very vigilent with her, and take her out frequently during your visits. I'd also recommend bringing a travel carrier along so you have a secure place to keep your dog during times when you can't watch her as closely.
You might also need to consider whether your dog needs to come along for every visit, especially if anyone is expressing displeasure about the house soiling. If you're just going to be away from home for a few hours, your dog should be fine at your house. If you're talking about spending a day or more away, you could consider a boarding kennel or pet sitter.
Thanks for your question, and I hope things work out.
