I’ve heard of so many different designer breed dogs. Poodles are mixed with many different breeds. I recently heard of Shichon (Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise). A friend breeds Malipoos (Maltese and Poodle) and Morkies (Maltese and Yorkies). We have a Schnoodle (Schnauzer and Poodle) and once had a Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel and Poodle). Labrodoodles (Labrador and Poodle) made headlines when President Obama considered getting one. (They ended up choosing a purebred Portugeuse Water Spaniel as a potential future dog.) All of these breeds seem like popular designer breeds. What are some of the more unusual designer or mixed breeds? Adrienne |

I just saw one yesterday when I was at the vets picking up my littlest cat from being spayed (pretty little 5 month old calico named Callie - rescued with her 2 brothers). Oops…..sorry furbaby Mommy getting carried away The dog was mix between a Chihuahua and a Pug. He had a Pug’s head on a Chihuahua body. He was soooo cute! I also heard of a Buggs - a Boston Terrier and Pug mix; a Pomapoo - a mix of a Pomeranian and a Toy Poodle; and a Puggle - a mix of a Pug and a Beagle |

I had a dog for 11 years who was half Australian Blue Heeler and half Border Collie. I got him from someone who has a farm and who raised both breeds. Heelers are great herders, but have a bad habit of nipping at the heels of their charges. Border Collies are highly intelligent but very territorial. He was hoping for the bet of both breeds (herding skills and intellect). I’m not sure about the rest of the litter, buy my Cody ended up as terretorial dog that bites! |

Yikes Mary! Hope you were able to curb the behavior a bit. As for “designer dogs”, one of the more interesting combinations I’ve heard about lately is the Chiweenie, a combination of the Chihuahua and the Dachshund (or weiner dog as some people like to call them). My daughter actually has a friend who has both of these breeds and initially planned on “making” Chiweenies with them, but I think they have since given up on that plan. |

It seems whenever I go to the vet I see a mix I have never seen before - this time it there were 2 ori peis - a mix between a pug and a shar pei. They were 6 month old sisters that were really cute! |

Okay, I have just heard of one that’s new to me - a Dach-Tzu. Honestly, I can’t imagine why anyone would think to combine those two breeds, and it’s difficult to imagine what they look like. I’m picturing a shaggy dog that is long and low. The head types are completely different, so I can’t quite picture what that turns out like. |
