The Obamas’ Dog

We all know that Bo has gotten tremendous press, but I was wondering how everyone felt about it?  Do you think that he/the family should have gone with a mixed breed instead? Or do you think that it’s a personal decision?

Also, I thought it was curious that he didn’t ask Cesar to train the dog; after all, he (Cesar) trained Oprah’s.  And when Cesar was on with Wolf Blitzer (CNN) he said he’d be honor to. I wonder why they didn’t ask…?

We were actually discussing this on another thread. The gist of that conversation is that most of think it was a personal choice, and we hope the PWD turns out to be a good fit for the Obamas. At least they will have staff to help care for their dog when they don’t have time for it themselves. I recently had the opportunity to meet a PWD for the first time at a local park, and I was impressed with his friendly temperament. He seemed well behaved, but I’m sure it probably took some training.

I did hear the Obama’s dog was being trained prior to coming to the Whitehouse, so maybe that was already in progress when Cesar made the offer. I’m sure it would have all been sensationalized by the press, so maybe having the dog trained more privately was the way to go for them.

I actually think choosing the dog has to be a personal choice and I think there was an allergy issue involved in the Obama choice.

Hi Terry, I’m with you, I think that choosing a dog is a very personal choice, and I certainly think that the president as the right to get whatever dog he chooses. I had heard about the allergy concern, but for some reason the choice of the dog still created quite the dust- up :-)

Hi Kelly, I didn’t realize that we were already discussing this somewhere else. No matter, the PWD is a super cute dog and so playful. I thought that Bo’s “press conference” was the icing on the cake!
