grin Hi Kelly, Finally i was able to come on the Forum and share my story abt my dog FLuffy. As we will be moving from the country soon we had no choice but to go ahead with a c-section and spaying for the dog. Fluffy had a blood test and to see her blood sugar level was very much down + she was anemic. I was very upest coz she was a veyr healthy dog b4 i had given her off to someone else. and now she was preg with less blood. It worried me a lot if she would survive the sugery. THe vet assured us that she will be fine. and prescribed a good multi vit for her aswel.
So then the dog was sent to the Opeetaion theartre. It was very sad to say bye to her while she was dozing off gulp After 50 min she was out and she was awake shivering in the vets’ arms! So then she was sent down for saline. She was given glucose water too. fully bandaged she still had the power to try and jump over the table. She was uncontrollable! Trust me, i had a time trying to quiet her down! <sigh> she looked very thin too. :( she found it a little hard to walk but very quietly she managed to do her jobs etc. so the next two days we had to take her to the animals hospital for injections. then later on i noticed her last two breast very swollen. i kinda figured out it must be the milk or the bandage was too tight. so after 4 days we took her and then her bandage was removed. the cut had healed very well. but her breasts were full and the vet said she must have caught an infection. but the breasts werent red. so anyways her milk was taken out a little. so when i went home that night i kept doing it and her breasts became very light and soft. i still do it at times.
oh i forgot to tell you that i saw her unborn pups :( there were 5 of them! they werent completley formed. it was very sad but we really had no choice. If she was allowed to keep her babies she would have been in danger too bcoz we had no idea she was anemic! and we cld not take her with us when we leave.
Over here the vets dont say anyting unless we ask them! So now im very particular abt asking anyting even if it sounds dumb. smile
I stopped the multi-vit for fluffy as i dont want her breasts getting full with colostrum. her appetite is good. but she is still not fat. she is 8.5kg. Last year she was 10. she is a small dog but when she was 10kg she looked just fine!
Now her belly looks kinda funny coz one side seems to be hanging down. I wonder if there is anyway to make it tight.
So Kelly i have been busy attending to my dog the past few days. he he. she is such a baby!! But i thank GOd everyday that she survived the surgery. Her skin prb too is now very much better.
We wil be flying in Aug so we need to get the requirments done on her health 14days b4 we fly smile
Im hoping for the best that she can come with us. If not i wil go crazy if i have to part with her which im not prepared to do at all!
sorry i have written a lot here.
thanx for ur help abt my dog. its been gr8t getting answers from you!

Gr8t Job!

Wow! What an ordeal! I’m so sorry you and your dog had to go through all of this. So to clarify, she was anemic and you didn’t know it? And then she became pregnant when you left her with someone? That’s really scary. I hope she recovers fully (and quickly!).

What kind of dog is Fluffy? If you’re able, maybe you could keep us posted on her progress. I wish you the best.

Hi Tanishia. I’m so glad you were able to make it over to the forum. It sounds like Fluffy has really been through a lot since we last talked. I know this was an incredibly difficult decision for you to make, but given the circumstances of your situation, you made the best choice you could. Hopefully Fluffy will get a clean bill of health from the vet and be able to fly with you when the big moves comes.

It sounds like you headed off a mastitis infection. The antibiotics should take care of it from this point on, so it may be better to stop expressing the milk. Expressing can fool the body into thinking more milk is needed, so I’d avoid it unless it really becomes necessary to relieve some pressure.

Do keep in touch and let us know how the moves goes. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you a bit, and I’m glad the information helped you through a difficult time. Hopefully things will be easier from this point forward.  smile

Hi Tanishia,

That sounds really scary. I’m so glad that it sounds like Fluffy is going to be okay now. It is so upsetting when our pets go through a health scare like this. I would really watch her from now on for any signs of the anemia returning. If she acts really lethargic, I’d get her back to the vet and have a blood test. Hopefully, she will be fine now that she’s had the surgery. Please do keep us all posted, so we’ll know she’s doing okay.

Hiya Kathleen,

I guess i will write the whole story here he he he. smile
Actually FLuffy is mixed. I also am not very sure of that but some vets said she cld be half Schnauzer. So no idea. he he. The thing was we are moving out of the country and going back to my home. And fluffy accidently injured my little daughters eye lid by jumping around so hubby decided to find someone who will look after her. So when we did find a someone who also had a bischon frise, i though hey maybe she will really love my dog too. So as promised to take good care of the dog i let her have fluffy. But i was allowed to come and see her. But each time i went fluffy would be so sad to see me go off and i noticed her bowl of water being empty everytime i come. and the other little dog was eating all her food too. and she was being fed by hand just a little. For the first time i noticed tear strains around her eyes too. She seems a little lighter. So this friend had found another owner an elderly gent who was very happy to see fluffy but he only kept her for a week. and i cldnt see her during that time! It was like so frustrating for me. I had no news of fluffy. then after a week she was returned back to my friend who said she can keep fluffy, i dont need to worry. That if she finds a better home she will give fluffy. But i decided to take her back if the next owner returns her again. Over here ppl are afraid to take dogs over 1yr old. I dont know why. The laters i used to notice fluffy all the time ont eh balcony. And it was the end of Spring but still very cold during night. So i was not sure how she was looked after. And she looked sad and thin. When i told my friend i wil take her back its ok. im still in the country i have time she would refuse to give her to me. But then i knew God would answer my prayers and bring me back my dog if its His will, and He did. My friend emails me saying she cant look after both the dogs. and that her bf is gettii back his dog form his grandma so since their apartment is very small no room for 3 dogs. So i gladly took fluffy back!! She was delighted too. But im sure fluffy missed her little friend there and the other friends abt 4 other dogs who lived in the same floor. They sorta share this big apartment which has 5 room.
And there was a very thin dog there too. THen b4 i left her palce i met a neighbour there who started talking in their own language abt FLuffy and another dog. I cld understand a bit. Then i sensed it that Fluffy was seen mating with another male dog in the vicinity! When i asked my friend she said it happend during the time the dog was with the old man. So i dont knwo if this is true. coz i remember telling her to be absolutely careful when fluffy is playing with other male dogs. and i knew one spaniel who was trying to hump fluffy at one time and its owner wld not care.
So then when FLuff came home i noticed her weight is very less and her appetite was not good. she vomited aswell. Her nipples were big too. so later we sensed she cld be preg. So it was then that i went searching on the net and landed on this gr8t site and got so much info from Kelly! It was so helpful he he.
Even though my dog started eating well she was rather thin. only her belly was really big. when we shaved off her hair due to the heat we saw a very diff fluffy. :(
So then just b4 heer c-sec only i learned from the blood test that she was weak. but she still had gr8t power to run ha ha.

Sorry this is so long smile But now fluffy’s cut is well healed and she is eating well too. Im hoping she would gain weight fast and be back to normal. smile Thanx so much for ur msgs on my post. its very encouraging. smile

THanx Lori and Kelly,

Its so veyr kind of you to be so concerned abt Fluffy. Its so gr8t to read ur comments. smile Yes right now Fluffy is doing fine. She has started to run like mad when i take her out. She acts very silly at times! raspberry
Kelly thanx a bunch for ur advice. Wow it sure helped me a lot!! Yes, abt the milk thing i kinda realised that if i send it out often then her breasts might get fuller even more. ( the same way when u have a baby ryt? ) So i did stop doing it and it looks like there is not prob. its all soft there. Today its the 10th day after the surgery so im going to give her a shower. The vet said she can take a shower on the 7th day but i just thought id wait another two days or so smile

I am really really happy i got connected with you too and on this site. There is so much of info! Amazing. smile

Thanx again everyone! =)

Thanks for explaining the whole story about Fluffy. smile I’m glad she seems to be doing better. I bet she’s very happy to be home.

Does your husband still want to get rid of her? I’m assuming that she just got excited and she’s not aggressive so maybe just a little training is needed to keep her from getting carried away with your daughter. smile Sometimes having small children and dogs can be hard.

Hey Kathleen, so sorry it took me so long to reply this. =) My husband loves dogs too. He was very upset after seeing wut happend to fluffy. So the dog will stay with us for sure he hee. But we have to constantly remind the little one not to play too much or get too close to the dog coz accidents cld happen. God saved her eye and i dont want anthing like that to happen. it totally freaked me out! o_O
Well we decided to fly out of the country with our pet. So waiting patiently till some that time comes. Next week have to get a blood test and some other document done in order to get an import permit. so hopefully this will be successfull coz its out first time. Im nervous also abt it he hee.
But my husband tells me always that if something comes up and we cannot take her than we have to make plans ahead and be prepared to leave the dog with someone. so lets see how it goes. smile
Have a gr8t week! tc…

Hey Tanishia, how are you doing?

Haven’t heard from you for a while, and I was wondering if you made the move. Hopefully you have Internet set up in your new place. How is Fluffy doing? If you did move, how did she handle the flight?
