I was in the dollar store today and I witnessed a very touching scene. Two little girls (sisters about 7-9 years old) each had a $10 bill in their hand and they were filling the basket with things for cats and dogs. Then they sat down on the floor and counted their items (10 each) as they told each other who the item was for:
*a big dog
*a small
dog
*A cat etc.

They had toys. treats, a brush and things like that.

They went to the register and told the girl there they were buying things for the animals at the shelter for Thanksgiving! It was so nice!!

I often see stories about dogs detecting health issues in humans, and while I believe that’s 100 percent true, I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this done personally. Has your dog ever told you, beforehand, that you were getting sick, or that a storm or earthquake was coming? Or have you ever witnessed a dog doing this for someone else?

A while ago ago I had mentioned that Benny was having problems with an ear infection. Since it cleared up he has had problems with the same ear twice. Although neither one was as bad as the original problem it seems every time he goes outside and it is windy or rainy his ear flares up again.
He does have a yellow rain slicker with a hood but it doesn’t really keep his ear covered so I made him a little ear muff out of the cuff of an old sweater. It slides over his head and fits nicely over his ears. Benny loves to get dressed up so he happily leaves it on while he is outside. So far it seems to be working

Hi

My Chihuahua had her puppies yesterday (midday). The puppies are healthy and latching on to the moms boobs for milk perfectly. My concern is that the mommy hasn’t lost her appetite and she’s been eating three or four times a day (small meals) and water but she hasn’t pooped. Is this normal? How long after birth does it take for her to poop all this food?

I have been thinking about the holidays coming and I always get (or make) my granddogs and grandcats something for Christmas. I was wondering if others here also include their furry babies (not their own furbabies) on their gift list. I think this year I am gfoing to make my 2 new granddogs (both recently adopted from shelters) special personalized cookie containers full of treats! Still trying to think of what to give the felines in the family.

Hi Kelly, Finally i was able to come on the Forum and share my story abt my dog FLuffy. As we will be moving from the country soon we had no choice but to go ahead with a c-section and spaying for the dog. Fluffy had a blood test and to see her blood sugar level was very much down + she was anemic. I was very upest coz she was a veyr healthy dog b4 i had given her off to someone else. and now she was preg with less blood. It worried me a lot if she would survive the sugery. THe vet assured us that she will be fine. and prescribed a good multi vit for her aswel.
So then the dog was sent to the Opeetaion theartre. It was very sad to say bye to her while she was dozing off After 50 min she was out and she was awake shivering in the vets’ arms! So then she was sent down for saline. She was given glucose water too. fully bandaged she still had the power to try and jump over the table. She was uncontrollable! Trust me, i had a time trying to quiet her down! <sigh> she looked very thin too. :( she found it a little hard to walk but very quietly she managed to do her jobs etc. so the next two days we had to take her to the animals hospital for injections. then later on i noticed her last two breast very swollen. i kinda figured out it must be the milk or the bandage was too tight. so after 4 days we took her and then her bandage was removed. the cut had healed very well. but her breasts were full and the vet said she must have caught an infection. but the breasts werent red. so anyways her milk was taken out a little. so when i went home that night i kept doing it and her breasts became very light and soft. i still do it at times.
oh i forgot to tell you that i saw her unborn pups :( there were 5 of them! they werent completley formed. it was very sad but we really had no choice. If she was allowed to keep her babies she would have been in danger too bcoz we had no idea she was anemic! and we cld not take her with us when we leave.
Over here the vets dont say anyting unless we ask them! So now im very particular abt asking anyting even if it sounds dumb.
I stopped the multi-vit for fluffy as i dont want her breasts getting full with colostrum. her appetite is good. but she is still not fat. she is 8.5kg. Last year she was 10. she is a small dog but when she was 10kg she looked just fine!
Now her belly looks kinda funny coz one side seems to be hanging down. I wonder if there is anyway to make it tight.
So Kelly i have been busy attending to my dog the past few days. he he. she is such a baby!! But i thank GOd everyday that she survived the surgery. Her skin prb too is now very much better.
We wil be flying in Aug so we need to get the requirments done on her health 14days b4 we fly
Im hoping for the best that she can come with us. If not i wil go crazy if i have to part with her which im not prepared to do at all!
sorry i have written a lot here.
thanx for ur help abt my dog. its been gr8t getting answers from you!

Gr8t Job!

Okay, I know I can’t be the only person on this forum who has dogs with super chewing abilities. I’m looking for your suggestions about which toys hold up the best. My JRTs tend to treat their toys like food, and nothing lasts for very long. A doggie tennis ball is shot in a single day and rawhides don’t last much longer. So, send me your suggestions. Maybe there’s something out there that I haven’t tried.

Hi Everybody,

I just read a piece about the new dog flu that’s going around (H3N8) and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this new flu or if their vet’s have told them anything about it. There’s a piece in the New York Times about it, as well as an Q&A section.

Do you think this is anything to worry about? Should we consider a vaccine? I’m curious to hear what everyone thinks/feels about this.

I just wanted to share this with you. Benny, my pug, has had an ear infection for several days. He is doing much better now but I have been seeing some amazing things here. While he was feeling most miserable - one of the cats was always laying next to him. They would either lay with their head on his neck or lay with their front paw around his neck. It seems they were taking shifts because they would change cats after awhile. At night Benny had Fernando (who always sleeps next to him at night since he was a tiny kitten) and 2 other cats forming almost a triangle around him in bed. They carefully cleaned his face and neck a couple times a day.

After a few days Benny was starting to feel a little better, the cats still were laying by him but they also started to go with him when he went to eat or drink. The cat on duty would sit down and wait for him to finish and then go back and lay down by him again…....

Currently, I bathe them about every 2 to 3 months, but I was wondering if that’s too frequent, or infrequent?
