I was in the dollar store today and I witnessed a very touching scene. Two little girls (sisters about 7-9 years old) each had a $10 bill in their hand and they were filling the basket with things for cats and dogs. Then they sat down on the floor and counted their items (10 each) as they told each other who the item was for:
*a big dog
*a small
dog
*A cat etc.

They had toys. treats, a brush and things like that.

They went to the register and told the girl there they were buying things for the animals at the shelter for Thanksgiving! It was so nice!!

Gizmo is 10 years old (9 pound Japanese Chin) and since he was tiny (6 weeks) his tongue stuck out of his mouth a little. At around 1 year he had to have several teeth removed that were impacted and his tongue was a little further out.

Ok - now my vet at the time suggested having his tongue cropped or getting him false teeth.
I defiantly wasn’t having his tongue cut and I couldn’t get him false teeth.
His tongue doesn’t bother him but I still hear from a few people that I should have had it cut when he was young.

I was wondering what everyone thought about this?

Thanksgiving is drawing near, so I thought we could all share ideas on ways to let our pets share in the leftovers. I know my girls just know they are going to get a treat when they smell the aroma of a turkey cooking in my oven. We don’t feed them table scraps because we don’t want to turn them into mooches, but they do get a taste of turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This year, I think I’m going to buy an extra large turkey and try out Wendy Nan Rees’ recipe for Turkey Loaf for Dogs. She says you can use leftover turkey to make it.

So, are the rest you going to share some turkey with your dog this holiday? Do you just give it to them straight off the plate, or do you have a great turkey treat recipe you can share?

I often see stories about dogs detecting health issues in humans, and while I believe that’s 100 percent true, I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this done personally. Has your dog ever told you, beforehand, that you were getting sick, or that a storm or earthquake was coming? Or have you ever witnessed a dog doing this for someone else?

A while ago ago I had mentioned that Benny was having problems with an ear infection. Since it cleared up he has had problems with the same ear twice. Although neither one was as bad as the original problem it seems every time he goes outside and it is windy or rainy his ear flares up again.
He does have a yellow rain slicker with a hood but it doesn’t really keep his ear covered so I made him a little ear muff out of the cuff of an old sweater. It slides over his head and fits nicely over his ears. Benny loves to get dressed up so he happily leaves it on while he is outside. So far it seems to be working

My little dog has awful breath. The vet says no teeth are rotted, but my little dog is too mean to easily get her teeth professionally cleaned. For now, the vet is just “keeping an eye on things in her mouth”. He would have to put her under to clean her teeth and she is very small so there are dangers with the anesthesia. Basically, we will probably have to put her out and clean them soon, but for now we are going to wait.

I do brush her teeth at least once a week. Anyone else have other techniques they use to help reduce bad breath or remove tartar build up? She will only allow me to brush her teeth, clip her nails, etc. She pretty much hates everyone else in the world if they try to restrain her in any way. She isn’t mean just to be petted or such, but if you try to pick her up, she loses it. She tries to eat the vet every time I take her in for vaccinations. He has to muzzle her and she still almost gets him every time.

Yes, she’s a bit insane, but I love her. LOL
