My dog is eating his poo.
Why does a dog eat its own poo. Is there anyway I can stop this?

Hi Yvonne,
This has to be one of the most difficult habits any dog owner ever has to deal with. There's some speculation that dogs eat stools because their keen sense of smell detects some undigested nutrition still left in them. Even so, there are plenty of nasty bacterias in the stools that provide reason enough to want to dissuade your dog from the habit. We have a good article on dealing with poop eaters that offers some suggestions I think you'll find helpful.

Your vet can give you some pills for the dog to make him dislike the taste of his feces. Please believe me that behavior is very bad for your dog's health! Never mind the kisses he gives you! LOL!
